NPM is held each September to encourage Americans to make sure they are prepared for disasters or emergencies in their homes, businesses and communities. Public and private organizations, groups and individuals can join the NPM Coalition and pledge to carry out at least one activity during the month to highlight the importance of family and business emergency preparedness. Register as a National Coalition member by visiting www.ready.gov and clicking on the National Preparedness Month banner. In 2010, nearly 5,000 registered as Coalition Members, the highest number ever.
This September marks the ten year anniversary of 9/11, the tragedy brought upon New York City and our Nation by acts of terrorism, including an airplane crash into the Pentagon that killed 125 public servants and 64 people on the plane.
In observing this ten year anniversary of September 11, 2001, we honor those who lost their lives in this tragedy, those who lost their loves ones and also our Nation as a whole including our armed forces. There is no better time to prepare than September, which is National Preparedness Month.
